Artist's Statement
Creating is a soulful activity. And
by its very nature is healing.
Whether I am cradling a piece of wet clay, scrubbing oil pastels on nubby
handmade paper from the east, or vigorously waving an oversized paintbrush
full of pigment overhead, I consider these movements part of an ancient
sacred dance. It is a joy to participate in Life in these ways.
There have been other times in my life when I strongly resisted the tug
towards creativity. I ran but I couldn’t hide from the pull towards
color, line, form, texture, movement. . . I spent enormous energy seeking
the answers I had all the time deep inside of me. “Paint, sculpt,
draw, carve, hammer. Be who you are. Listen.”
I am grateful for the opportunity to share with you just a small sampling
of some recent work. For me it is all about the process. The process of
creating the work and then necessary to complete the process, the viewing.
Perhaps a piece will inspire you, another you’ll find disturbing,
and possibly – on a very good day – you’ll have an experience
of Beauty itself. In all cases I am glad that we could engage in this way
and I look forward to future meetings while on this marvelous path together.
